Joe Root: England to name batsman Test chief, supplanting Alastair Cook

Joe Root will be named as England's new Test skipper later on Monday.

The Yorkshire batsman, 26, replaces Alastair Cook, who surrendered after over four years in control a week ago.

Britain don't play their next Test coordinate until meeting South Africa at Lord's in July, when Root will turn into the 80th man to lead the nation in the longest type of the diversion.

No batsman has made more than Root's 4,594 keeps running since he made his Test make a big appearance in December 2012.
